Driving licence

Postby kevin2103 on Sat Jun 13, 2009 7:18 am

I had somthing pointed out to me last night that made me realy mad. When I past my driving test in 1977 I sent off the pass certificate with a cheque and week or so later recieved my brand new driving licence, which I signed, and as I thought entered into a leagal contract, that baring me losing my licence through driving offeces, meant I had a licence that did not run out until I was 75. Fast forward to 2001, I move house so had to change my, now mouth eaten and dog eared old paper licence for a new plastic coated EU photo licence. On my old licence I could ride a motor cycle up to 250cc on L plates on the new licence I could not, Oh well I gave up riding bikes long befor that so I shruged that off. What I did not notice until pionted out last night was the tiny print on the reverse side of the licence, that it was no longer valid until I was 75, no it is only valid for ten years. So the goverment has torn up my contract with them and without telling me replaced it with one that requires me to renew my licence every ten years, not based on my ability to drive, ( which would be a very good idea ) but on my ability to pay. How many of you out there are driving with an invalid driving lincence? Ah well just another goverment money making scheme.

This is another stealth tax. It actually costs £2 a year just to have a driving licence, work it out, include the fee for renewal and the photos.
The DVLA after a television exposay have finally dropped the " mistakes are not possible" stance and admitted that mistakes have been made. Catogories changed and licences cancelled, they even spelt my name wrong.

Keep a photocopy of you old licence, once you've sent it all off it is more difficult to challenge mistakes.

Do challenge mistakes, do not let them shout you down or charge you, stand you ground and if enough of us do this they might stop being so crap.
