David Laws

Postby Ivor Bigtruck on Sun May 30, 2010 11:31 pm

So our esteemed new Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. David Cameron, MP. has described Lib Dem MP, David Laws as "a good and honourable man" following his resignation from the coalition parliamentary cabinet.

This resignation follows reports that Laws defrauded tens of thousands of pounds from us British taxpayers to give to his gay partner!

So, Mr Cameron, in your unparalleled wisdom, how in hell does this make him a "good and honourable man"?! You are also quoted as saying that you hope some day he can return to office!

Surely this embezzlement should result in criminal charges being brought against this crook. If I, as a businessman and a taxpayer defrauded the tax office of tens of thousands of pounds, I would surely end up in prison!

An example should be made of this seedy character. Criminal charges should be brought against him (and his gay lover for receiving stolen money). Where are the police in all this debacle?

So much for cleaning up politics and restoring the trust of the voting public, eh Mr. Cameron?

Meet the new boss - same as the old boss - we've all been fooled again!

You did indeed, Brian. However, it's not so much that no one listened - more that there was so little choice. The nation HAD to be rid of Och Aye One Eye, and I firmly think that Cameron was the better choice, albeit Hobson's choice.

I largely agree with your previous posting suggesting Cameron has limited experience of the real world - the world of the average man and woman in the street if you like. However this is not an excuse for such terrible judgement of character, or the morals of right or wrong as shown in this case. Cameron would have commanded much more respect had he sacked this crook Laws, and furthermore, brought in the police to deal with this whopping fraud!

But then, that would have resulted in upsetting 'Cling on Clegg', wouldn't it?

I wonder how David Davis would have dealt with this situation had he been elected Tory leader and then PM?

I respect David Davis for taking a stand against the "big brother state" when we resigned from the Tory opposition, I think he would have sacked Laws, but I do believe he would have joined with the Lib Dems to from a goverment, after all, power is nectar to politicians, that is why they exist, to lord over us minions, we mere feeble mortals. While I am on the subject of politicians, what about that creep (two jags) Prescott becoming a Lord, how ridiculus is that!, as someone said "Vermin in Ermin"

Proof if proof were needed that we should have an elected upper house, Brian, similar to the US Senate.

One point of view is that 'Cling on' now is unable to critisise the PM, being deputy PM himself. The Lib Dems have shot themselves in the foot by themselves going into co-alition with any party. All Cleggy can do is hang on to Cameron's shirt tails, agree with everything he says, and stay non-com to what he disagrees with. Not that they, or he ever spoke much sense to start with!

Just read in our local free rag that both our local former Labour MPs are to receive a 'resettlement payment' of over £54,000 each to 'help them settle back into ordinary life after being in Parliament'!

Apparently, the first £30k of this will also be tax free!

Both these former MPs decided (of their own choice) not to stand for re-election after they were found to have had their hands in the expenses pot.

Both have landed cushy 'advisory' or 'consultant' type jobs within the Public Sector (one has two such jobs paying over £34k and £28k respectively, both within the NHS trust) since leaving the House of Commons!

Each will also draw an ex MP's pension as well, based on final salary which will earn them about £11k per annum.

If all 218 outgoing MPs (many disgraced) across the Nation claim this grant (and they will!) it will cost the UK taxpayer £10.4 million!

Nice work if you can get it!
