I have been watching your last episode filmed in Romania. You are a very ignorant person speaking like that about my beautiful country. Very superficial and disappointing. Just because you were flashing your speedy car in front of some people, but inside you lack of character, offending them in your proper English language about their country.... very sad! I used to like you and watching your shows, but you need to get some more wisdom. Just because you hd the priviledge to have a country saved by Churchill's strategy, and we had to live 45 years under Comunism, doesn't give you the right to be arrogant and look down on us. I have to remind you that the UK has been helped by the Marshall Plan after the II-nd World War. And the list would continue. So stop pointing out negative things about my country. I bet if you have lived under the same conditions, you wouldn't be such a big turkey. Europe was struggeling with the Nazi for 5 years and almost collapsed. We struggeled with Comunism for 45 years, and we became victoriuos in the end.
I think owe some apologise and don't you ever try to be cinical about my fantastic and beautiful country with its people!!!!
Okay, let's get a perspective on this.
Why did Romania fare so badly for 45 years at the hands of Communism after WW2?
Whilst, as you quote, "Europe was struggling with the Nazi for five years and almost collapsed", it was mainly British, Russian and eventually American troops who did the struggling. The French police did a bit of struggling too - to round up all the Parisian Jews and pack 'em off to Auschitz. Meanwhile Romania threw in its lot with Adolf!
Did Romania not send its rabble of an army to side with Hitler's Sixth Army on it's march through Russia, burning the Russian villagers alive in their homes and churches as it progressed towards Stalingrad, where it all went a bit pearshaped for them when Stalin's troops encircled them for several winter months, thus resulting in most of the Sixth Army and its collaborators (yes, including Romanians) either starving, or freezing to death? Many also died by trying to get pissed on antifreeze, incidentally!
Romania is a beautiful country. I was lucky enough to visit in 2000 when I took a load of humanitarian aid to an orphanage at Bradet, near Brasov. However, some (not all) of the Romanian people I encountered en route tried to rip me off, steal from me, and I even saw one unfortunate man being stoned (probably to death) by a lynch mob as I drove through a Gypsy encampment! That's not to mention the appaling abuse and mistreatment of the children I saw at the several State facilities I visited.
Oh you must visit Romania! You'll love it!
