Cars adapted ofr the disabled

Postby Wendy on Wed Jan 20, 2010 2:30 pm

Dear Jeremy,

Having watched of all programmes 'How to look good Naked' last night, good old Gok went up in my opinion as he is featuring disabled women in his show full marks to him! I have wanted to ask you and your team for sometime to consider featuring wheelchair adapted cars on your programme to test drive them! While I realise they are not fantastically sexy they are essential for many folk (I'm on my second wheelchair adapted car for my husband who became totally paralysed aged 40yrs and we have 3 sons), especially so now with injuries suffered in the Army and British forces. I thought with your work with Help the Heroes this would tie in well too. Mike my husband was in the Army as was his father (who lost his arm in Korea.....what a family I hear you say!). I even nursed in the army for 3yrs.
Mike has an incredible sense of humour and he refers to his car as his Crip Wagon or Staff Car (very military). Our sons and Mike are huge fans of your show, they are all now challenging teenagers as Mikes illness (brainstem stroke) happened 7yrs ago, eldest at uni now.
Anyway hope you think about this and hope to hear something back.

That's actually a good idea. My own farther is disabled, and has great trouble selecting an appropriate vehicle that can be adapted for him to drive it. But the problem would be this, the three of them would have a bit of a laugh at doing it, and some sad bar steward would write into the bbc and complain about them being some kind of 'ist', which is probably illegal under the EUSSR, and therefore english law.

Whatever happened to all the old powder blue three wheeler "invalid carriages" of the 1970's?

They were made of glass fibre as I remember, so can't all have rotted away!

Are they now being used in Norfolk as hedgehog hibernation posts?
